A female undergraduate who planned her kidnap with her boyfriend to extort money from her mother says she did it for love.
The Delta State University, Abraka, undergraduate who was arrested last week for faking her kidnap with her boyfriend to extort N10 million from her parents, Belynda Chinwe Bosa,
has confessed to the police that she did what she did because of the
love she has for the man, so as not to lose him to another woman.
The
25-year-old Mass Communication student told the police that she decided
to stage manage the abduction because her boyfriend is poor and she
wanted to help him get money from her parents, claiming that when one is
in love, he could do anything to prove that love.
Bosa,
who was paraded by the police in Asaba, Delta State, also said they
wanted to use the money to set up a business and settle down as husband
and wife.
Narrating what led her into the crime that has now put a dent on her image, Bosa said:
"We
have been in love for over a year now. To me, I am in love and just
want to get some money from my parents so that we can begin our lives
together in peace.
At first I did not know that the whole thing will escalate to this extent, but here we are paraded before the whole world.
See,
let me say that what I did was just to help my boyfriend to be
somebody. I love him and I can do anything to assist him become somebody
in the future so that we can be husband and wife.
However,
I must tell you that I am regretting the whole thing because I have
disgraced myself, my family. Just look me, paraded before the whole
world as a kidnapper; you see love can make you look stupid at times, it
makes you to do stupid things, people will not understand until they
will be in love.
Our initial plan was
just to get reasonable amount that can sustain us but you see, my
boyfriend went ahead to ask for N10 million; where do you think my
parents will get that from? My father, a medical doctor, is late and my
mum is a retired school bursar, so I was not happy when they called my
mum demanding for N10 million and I made it clear to my boyfriend.
I did it, I don’t want to lie, it is bad and I know it, my parents should forgive me because I was overwhelmed by love.
When
you are in love, it can lead you to do stupid things that people will
think are stupid, but you see what I did, I did for love because I love
my boyfriend so much that I wanted to settle down with him. He has no
money hence we both agreed to arrange my kidnap so that we can extort
money from my parents.
The money,
according to our initial plans, was to enable my boyfriend to pay my
dowry and then use part of it to settle down and use the remaining money
to engage in a business that we can use to take care of ourselves after
marriage.
I will like to advice others to be careful, because love can be crazy and may lead to do crazy things to keep it going."
The
boyfriend also stated his own part in the kidnap, stating that it was
because he was so much in love with the girl and wanted to marry her by
all means that he decided to go with the plan.
"When
she visited me in Port Harcourt, we both agreed to find a way out and
the best option was to fake the kidnap of my girlfriend.
And
so, after agreeing with each other, we called the mother that her
daughter has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen and after some time we
called back using different GSM lines demanding for N100 million as
ransom for her release.
But after
negotiation, they were able to pay N500,000 into our account with a new
generation bank in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. We went to collect the
money and before I could know it, one of the suspects who owned the
account was arrested and he led police to arrest me and my girlfriend
(the victim) and it was discovered that we faked the victim’s kidnap
just to extort money from the parents.
However,
before the arrest, we shared the money among ourselves. I gave one of
the suspects N200, 000; I took N200, 000 and equally gave another some
money and at the end, I bought my girlfriend a GSM phone.
We
spent my share of the money in lodging in hotel, feeding ourselves and
now about N27, 000 is remaining, this was how the whole thing happened."
