Taiwo Olakunle, an 18-year-old girl who ran away from her aunt's home with her lover, is now back
Last week, Pulse.ng brought you the story of Taiwo Olakunle, the 18-year-old girl who reportedly ran away from
her aunt, Ola Lawal's home in the Iju area of Lagos, with her lover, on
12 November, 2014, putting the aunt's family including the husband,
Ibrahim Lawal, in serious trouble with the police after they were
arrested and detained for some days.
The good news
is that the teenager has returned to her guardian's family after a
serious search was mounted for her by the police. The young lady who was
full of apologies for putting her family into such tension and agony,
has confessed to the police that she actually fled her aunt's home with
her lover because she was afraid of what some street boys who had
earlier assaulted her and were arrested and charged to court, would do
to her when they regained their freedom.
Olakunle
told police officers from the Iju Police Division, who took her away to
the station for questioning after learning of her appearance, that she
fled from home to stay with a lover in the Alagbado area, because she
was worried that her suspected assailants were charged to court by the
police, which she did not think was a good step. She added that she was
worried about her safety.
Hear Olakunle's reasons for fleeing from home:
"Those
guys who beat me up were truly arrested by the police, and they were
asked to get me treated. I did not know they would be charged to court
for it.
When I learnt that they were
charged to court, I was troubled. I then decided to leave the area and
run to a lover’s house. The statement the police took from me was
perhaps doctored to make the men’s offence seem bigger. I did not expect
they would be taken to court."
The man of the house, Ibrahim Lawal spoke of his relief that his wife's niece came back home safe and sound:
"My wife and I had suffered. It got to a point that people said we had used the girl for rituals. We are glad that she was back.
