Perez out to emulate Argentina greats at Valencia
The midfielder was unveiled to 8,000 fans at the Mestalla on Friday and is determined to follow in the footsteps of compatriots including Mario Kempes and Pablo Aimar

Enzo Perez wants to become the latest Argentinian to impress for La Liga club Valencia after completing his move from Benfica.

Perez was officially presented to approximately 8,000 fans at the Mestalla on Friday after completing his move from Portuguese champions Benfica earlier in the week.

The Argentina international could make his debut against Real Madrid on Sunday and hopes to emulate compatriots such as Mario Kempes and Roberto Ayala in becoming a Valencia favourite.

The 28-year-old added his thanks and pleasure at the warmth of his welcome, telling fans:"First of all, I would like to thank everybody who has come out for the presentation. I have the greatest expectations of making a good start here.

"I would like to thank the club and Peter Lim for the confidence they have placed in me and for maintaining that belief in the six months since we first looked at my coming here. I hope that this new project at Valencia grows, and that 2015 will be a happy year for us all.

"I have had the best endorsement of Valencia, because of the trophies won here and because of the great Argentinian players who have played here. Kempes, Aimar, Kily Gonzalez, Ayala and now Otamendi too –it's a great list."
