I’m Supporting All Presidential Candidates – Babangida

Eyebrows were raised after former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) apparent endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan and then shortly afterwards the presidential candidate of the (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), and promising to mobilise retired military generals tosupportthe latter..
However, during a talk show on Channels TV, on Thursday the former president said he endorses all 14 presidential candidates in the forthcoming election.He added that all the candidates had displayed passion for the unity of the country.

Asked by the presenter of the programme, Ms. Kadaria Ahmed, if he had thrown his weight behind Jonathan, Babangida said he alluded to it.

“I did allude to that. I said I found him as someone who has a very strong belief about the unity of this country.Those of us who fought the civil war and I still carry a bullet here as a permanent reminder in me, so anyone who talks about Nigeria’s unity, I get impassioned about it.So what I said is that the president believes in the unity of this country and any other person who believes in the unity of this country should support the president to keep the country one,” he said.

Continuing, Babangida said as far as the presidential election was concerned, all the 14 presidential candidates had his blessing.

“The only difference and I did mention it, is that I have not been able to read what they have to offer to this country and I am going to do that. Whoever offers what I was looking forward to I will cast my vote,”

Armed robber suspect ,John Nnamdi, who owns one of the biggest stores at the Alaba International Market has opened up on why he kept participating in robbery operations despite building mansions from previous operations.Arrested with 4 others ,two also traders,John, while speaking with Crime & Security said that most traders are into armed robbery too

“I participated in a robbery operation where we made over one hundred million naira and I got twenty eight million naira as my share. What kind of business could I have done to get that kind of money?”“I am a businessman at the Alaba International Market. I deal in musical instruments. The same thing is applicable to my members. They have one business or the other in the market. Some sell generator parts or sets; others sell one thing or the other to deceive people that we are into genuine businesses. We robbed a man travelling from Cotonou.”

On how they got the information that the man was holding a huge amount of money, John said that

“It was our informant that told us that the man was coming into the country. It was the mostsuccessful robbery operation that I ever participated in. Others got N25 to N18 million, depending on their roles. I am the gang leader.

“The second robbery was in Cotonou. We raided a bank. We got big money also. But I can’t say how much. I know I got N17 million and my boys got as much as N5 million each.”

The suspects, while speaking on robberies outside Nigeria, said

“Robberies in Cotonou are easier than what happens in Nigeria. In Cotonou, you don’t even need a gun to operate. But in Nigeria, especially in Lagos, you need to be very careful.”

On why he continued to participate in robberies even after making enough money, the suspect said that

“Well, I built a very magnificent building in my village. I have another one in Lagos. I bought some cars but I regret everything now. I am going to be ashamed both in the market and in my village because people see me as a big guy. What of my church? I am finished; I am a Catholic and an active church member who belongs to many societies. My church members will now see me as an evil person. I am exposed to ridicule. Well, many people in Alaba International Market and other market places are into armed robbery or other illegal businesses. Like Victor Anamalechi, he is my gang member and he sells generating sets. He is equally seen in the market as a big man. The other person, Ihenacho Igwe (aka Messiah) is not in Alaba Market, but when he got much money, he invested intrucks. He also bought some taxis and commercial buses. He really utilised his moneyvery well but all is now vanity.

“My advice to people is that they should not be envious of other people that they see in affluence. Many of them could have acquired their wealth through illegal means, especially armed robbery. More so, the money one gets through armed robbery brings fear and apprehension as one is forced to live in perpetual fear. Now, I have been living in fear and the thing I was afraid of all this while has finally happened to me. I have been arrested and I don’t know my fate yet.”

Vice-President Namadi Sambo on Thursday advised the APC presidential candidate, against committing suicide by planning to personally lead the war against Boko Haram terrorists, if elected president.Sambo gave the advice at the PDP Presidential Rally in Yola, Adamawa asking how many meters Buhari can run..
He described the plan as a suicidal proposal, asking “will he (Buhari) go with a suicidal proposal?”

“I want to seize this opportunity to draw our attention to a publication, last week, credited to the vice-presidential candidate of the APC that their plan is to ask their presidential candidate, retired Maj-Gen. Buhari, to lead the war against Boko Haram.I want to ask you a question, a retired 73-year-old General …can he run? No!

“Okay, let’s assume that he can run; how many metres can he run before he falls? The training of aGeneral that retired in 1985 is it the same training that can address a modern war? No!

Luis Figo has been voted overwhelmingly as the man who deserves to be the next Fifa president by Goalreaders, with current incumbent Sepp Blatter slumping to fourth in the poll.

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielder Figo was the first candidate to announce ahead of Thursday's midnight deadline that he had secured the five FA nominations needed to legitimately contest the position.

And, with 56.6 per cent of the vote, Figo also appears to have a groundswell of support from everyday football fans.

His nearest contender in our poll was Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, a member of the royal family in Jordan, whom 16.1% of readers believe is a viable candidate to fix up the world football governing body, which has been rocked by scandals over the past two years.

Amusingly, the third-most popular contender is Goal's very own Carlo Garganese, who outlined his 10-point plan to save Fifa earlier this week, which went down a treat with supporters of the beautiful game.

Slumped down in fourth is current president Blatter, whose popularity is at an all-time low. The Swiss has been in charge of the organisation since 1998 and, despite saying in the past he would not contest the job again, he has gone against his word.

Two football figures with just over 4% of the vote apiece are bookmaker-backed David Ginola, whose campaign has looked destined for attention-seeking failure from the start, and former Ajax chairman and current Dutch FA chief Michael van Praag.

At the bottom of the pile is Jerome Champagne who, despite being the first person to announce he would contest Blatter for the Fifa reins, is clearly floundering in the popularity stakes and claimed recently he was struggling to get the five required FA nominations.

Wolfsburg set to complete €30 million Schurrle deal

Andre Schurrle's agent Ingo Haspel expects the Germany international's proposed €30 million transfer fromChelsea to Wolfsburg to go through on Friday.

The 24-year-old is keen to leave Stamford Bridge due to his lack of regular first-team action under Jose Mourinho and has set his sights on a return to the Bundesliga, where he previously enjoyed success at Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen.

Chelsea are ready to cash in on Schurrle following the imminent arrival of Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina and Wolfsburg are now on the verge of completing the €30m deal.

"I expect the deal to go through on Friday," Haspel told SID.

"There are still a few talking points, but we're no longer talking numbers. It's not a done deal just yet, though."

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs previously denied they were interested in signing the versatile attacker, but has now admitted a deal is close after all, although he has warned that nothing is official just yet.

"The fact is that the signatures are still missing," Allofs told ARD.

"Nothing has been signed as of yet, so I remain a bit cautious. We still have some hurdles to overcome.
The ink on the contract is not dry just yet."

Schurrle will sign a contract until June 2019 with Wolfsburg, worth €6m per year before taxes.

The Bundesliga side have allowed veteran attacker Ivica Olic to leave the club for Hamburg in order to free up space for the Chelsea forward.

Schurrle will join one of the revelations of the 2014-15 Bundesliga campaign, with Wolfsburg currently second in the league table, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by 11 points ahead of Friday's meeting with the reigning champions.
